Daniel Anthony Artist

For over four decades, Daniel Anthony has worked in the realm of public sculpture. He has been instrumental in the commissioning, contracting, enlargement, creation, transportation, and installation of many large-scale, site-specific sculptures. Dan began his journey in bronze casting as a student at the University of Wyoming, where the Art Department contained a bronze foundry. After graduating from college, Dan received a post-graduate grant to study bronze casting in Italy, learning every aspect of the ancient art. Returning to the United States, he became foundry director at Shidoni in Santa Fe, New Mexico, from 1977 to 1987. There he worked with important sculptors to generate large cast and fabricated pieces destined for various American cities. Still in Santa Fe, he left his position at Shidoni to work with sculptor Glenna Goodacre as her assistant, studio manager, and PR agent. Together over a thirty-year period they created dozens of commissioned portrait sculptures and large-scale public works for municipalities and museums around the U.S. They also sculpted many life-size studio figures that were purchased for collections in the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Spain, and England. Several smaller works are in other collections around the World. In 1999 they designed the face of the 2000 Sacagawea U. S. Dollar. Throughout the years continuously creating his own work, Dan has devoted more time in the last few years to making his particular style of bronze sculptures with crisp detail in traditional works including portrait busts, animals, and table-top pieces.
